Women's Fashion Loungewear

Staying In – the New Going Out
Last week, I was full of the joys of spring as I gleefully revealed my excitement at the new season’s forthcoming trends; this week, I have conceded defeat and admitted that it is, after all, too cold to actually leave the house, let alone prance around town in a bra top. The focus for this week, therefore, is on cuddly clothes to hibernate in – without compromising on style.

I’ll be honest – loungewear is not something I have previously given much thought to, with most of my leisure items being acquired at the supermarket along with the weekly shop. But a little bit of research into the world of comfy clothing has opened up a whole new genre of attire – who knew that snuggling on the sofa and snaffling the last of the Christmas chocolates could be so chic?

Women's Spring Fashion Trend - Denim

Our favourite weekend fall-back has quickly become the trend to wear in Spring/Summer 2010. Denim lit up the catwalk this season showcasing patches, distressed treatments, and enough cuts to have every fashionista singing the blues.

Designer Ralph Lauren introduced us to a softer side of denim by mixing floral prints with distressed denims for a fresh, feminine look while D&G rocked their urban denim styles with leather accessories and denim handbags (see image above).

The versatility of designs that fashion houses displayed makes denim an easy addition to both day and night looks. Whether paired with smart trainers or peep-toe heels, this street-chic trend is a must for updating your look this season!

Seeking a bit of style inspiration? Here are our top 5 denim looks for spring:

Women’s Spring Fashion Preview Continued

Women's Spring Fashion Preview

Spring is a chance to let your style blossom, incorporating key pieces from the mix between winter and summer trends. This coming spring, there are some great items you must get your hands on to be ready for the season. Floral is always a definite spring pattern to be wearing, but for those who are a little more complex than the general “girly” nature, adding tough fabrics and accessories to pastel flowery prints adds a bit of edge to an outfit with interest and attitude.

With winter gradually making its way out, spring fashion requires a mix of pieces to get you through the spring thunderstorms, chilly mornings and bright, warm sunny days. Pale cream and peach colours work in well with faded denim, strong blacks and tan accessories. Wearing something sweet and delicate close to the body then adding tough dark pieces over the top brings edginess to innocence.

Steal Her Style – Alexa Chung

Steal Her Style - Alexa Chung

One of my favourite celeb styles has to be Alexa Chung. There something about her fun and effortless chic style and her laid back attitude that inspires me. Everything she wears has an ‘I haven’t tried hard’ vibe about it yet she still manages to look amazing!

When asked about her fashion style she says…
“I’ve always been fond of a girl who’s hair looks like it needs a wash, and who looks more likely to run off with your purse than your boyfriend”

Alexa was approached by Storm Model Management at the age of 16 whilst enjoying herself at Reading Festival but her big break came when her audition tape for T4 was reviewed and she was offered the role of presenter on Popworld, alongside Alex Zane. Lucky Girl!

Although it wasn’t her presenter career that has made her famous, more like her constant appearance on the London party circuit and her style icon status. And it seems she is only getting better… the lucky lady got to walk the catwalk for the Vivienne Westwood Red Label S/S 09 collection, became the face of New Look and to end 2009 Alexa beat Kate Moss to Vogue’s 2009 Best Dressed title! And what a style legend to beat!

Spring is in the Air

Spring Trend Advice

Sometimes the aura of flowers blooming and birds chirping can take away from the fact that nature has always been the inspiration for spring fashion. Spring fashion has been known to be dominated by floral, colourful cardigans, erotic prints and paranormal nautical stripes. The blooming of Easter hats and the smells of pastel painted cupcakes littered as prints on ballooning skirts is enough to make spring fashion an overdosing experience.

Other than fall spring is my favourite time of the year. It’s the time when my make-up does not run and the most beautiful colours come together. It is so simple to fall in love with spring fashion as inspiration can be drawn from almost anywhere. Designers peruse ancient Greece with flowing simple clean dresses, as well as follow the colours of the sky with turquoise blue hue painted brooches worn by runway models. Inspiration from sailors can be used to bring out those nautical stripes and wide leg jeans. The rebirth of denim fabrics in shoes as well as belts and jackets can be used to top off spring fabrics.

Women’s Fashion Glasses

Women's Fashion Glasses

You only have one chance to make a first impression, and you’ve heard the expression ‘good lenses, bad frames’. No matter how smart/savvy/suave you may be, if it’s not turned-out in a tasteful way, it’s harder to make the same impact. Let’s face it, first impressions are all about style, but very few people really invest the appropriate amount of time to actually find the right frames to suit their face.

Increasingly, people are wearing fashion frames with clear lenses just for the statement they make. Even our editor once admitted his desire for a pair by Tom Ford, despite his 20/20 vision (and although he would look dashing in a pair of those tortoise-shell Havanas, I wouldn’t want him to cover up those long brown lashes for a second). Reading glasses for most however, are a necessity and something worn daily that can dramatically alter the look of your face, and more broadly, your look. They are fashion accessories and should enhance your best features, not detract from them.

Women’s Spring Fashion Trend – Ruffles!

Posted In: Fashion Trends

Article By: Cassie Herbert

Spring Fashion Trend - Ruffles!

Ruffles are back…
Last week we touched on some of the emerging trends that are set to have women’s fashion alight in Spring/Summer 2010. First up we had nude collections coming to the forefront, which involved subtle feminine colours and embracing your girly side. This makes a massive difference from last year where Autumn/Winter was all about power dressing, rock chic and strong silhouettes. The next big trend that ties in beautifully with the whole nude trend is Ruffles. Yes they are back girls and they are going to be bigger than ever!

Last year there was a massive emphasis within the world of women’s fashion on detailing like studs, pleats, sequins and embroidery. This meant we saw variations of traditional clothing with everything from little black dresses to tops getting a makeover and bringing them bang up to date. Ruffles are going to be this year’s biggest embellishment trend on women’s clothing – Ruffles and frills will be present in all shapes and sizes, adding a girly innocence to every item of clothing they are added to.

We are a nation obsessed – So show some love for these sexy blood suckers with some vamped up vampire couture.

It a look to DIE for!

Embrace pale – The expression ‘you look as if you could sue a pint of blood’ has never been more apt. Put the fake tan down and go au natural. It’s all about pale skin and Smokey eyes. Keep powders translucent and matte for that barely there look and layer on black eyeliner to give a sexy seductive stare that any vampire would be proud of. Head to ASOS to purchase the twilight brand of make–up:

Women's Spring Fashion Trends Preview

Spring is Springing…

Don’t get me wrong, I LOVE a bargain; but after a few weeks of trawling through endless ’sale’ racks of tired-looking party-wear and boring woolly jumpers, there are two words which emerge from the faded sequins like the sartorial equivalent of a Phoenix rising from the ashes: New Collection.

The announcement of fresh, new season clothes causes my heart to sing with joy and suddenly, the promise of long, light evenings and dazzling blue skies is within grasp of my pastel-painted fingertips. Since the S/S10 shows last September, anyone with more than a passing interest in fashion will have an idea of what we will be wearing this spring – but actually having the clothes in tangible touching distance is like putting the final piece into the couture jigsaw. Here are my top 3 favourite trends for this year:

The Ten Fashion Commandments (of Spring/Summer 2010)

Posted In: Fashion Trends

Article By: Renuka Rajadurai

The Ten Fashion Commandments

2010 is the year of the new religion… Fashion. So with that in mind I have created the 10 fashion commandments every woman needs to abide by this Spring/Summer:

The Ten Fashion Commandments

1. Thou shalt worship but one style – as you add to your wardrobe this season be sure not to get carried away with trends that simply do not compliment your wardrobe. Know you’re style and stick to it, I’m fed up with seeing military-hipster mash-ups all over town.

2. Thou shalt not make false idol (Gok Wan, please take note – gluing art and craft decorations to high street purchases does not fashion make).

3. Remember fashion week, and keep it holy. Support graduate fashion the week after as well, you never know who might be the very next Westwood…

REVEALED: The BFC Vogue Fashion Fund Shortlist!

Posted In: Fashion News

Article By: Laura Frampton

The BFC Vogue Fashion Fund Shortlist!

British fashion has long had an inspiring influence on the industry as a whole. With big name fashion designers such as Alexander McQueen, John Galliano, Stella McCartney, Julien Macdonald & Vivienne Westwood, dominating the scene. New talents emerge year after year but can sometimes fall back from the pack due to the lack of funds and limited support available within the sector.

With this in mind it was the genius idea of the British Fashion Council Chairman Harold Tillman, to launch a fund that would supply young British talent with financial and business support. He launched the idea in September 2008 as part of the BFC’s 25th anniversary celebrations, with this week revealing the shortlist of 8 designers in the run up to winning £200,000!!

The finalist’s are:

Women’s Fashion Trend – Sping/Summer Nude

Posted In: Fashion Trends

Article By: Cassie Herbert

Women's Fashion Trend - Sping/Summer Nude

Today we are going to show you one of Spring/Summer 2010’s biggest trends… NUDE.

We already saw the nude trend last year during the end of summer and start of autumn, but this time year it will be more present then ever. All the runway shows were full of nude collections at all the big designer houses (see images below) and the high street is guaranteed to not be far behind. Last summer we were all obsessing about colour blocking, but this year there will be a new feminine spin towards clothing and footwear by utilising subtle nude tones.

The nude tones generally compromise of skin tones like whites, beige, creams and subtle browns. They make most outfits look ultra-feminine, as the softness in the colouring is very feminine and girly. Unfortunately it can also make many women look pale, but that won’t stop us all here at Fashionbeans from getting in on what is perhaps going to be the biggest early trend of the year. It’s just time to reach for the fake tan this Spring/Summer!

Steal Her Style – Lea Michele

Steal Her Style - Lea Michele

Have you all watched Glee yet?! It is THE big TV show of the moment and here at FashionBeans we all absolutely LOVE IT. It’s like an episode of high school musical every week, with extravagant dance routines and some killer outfits going on. The main star of the show and our quirky favourite is Rachel, who is played by this week’s style steal: Lea Michele.

On the show her outfits can be anything from a little dowdy to completely insane, but we are not going to show you how to get that look today! In real life Lea has managed to navigate the Hollywood fashion circuit pretty well, and has an innate sense of style (or is dressed very well by a stylist). She has exploded onto the scene with the TV show, and is now a fresh style icon for the younger audience. Her look is sophisticated beyond her years and as you can see from the pictures above, she can pull off multiple styles very well.

Today we are going to show you how to get (main image left to right):
